Write ID data

If −f option is specified, only the format type is displayed.  If −n option is specified, only the format type number is displayed.  If −m option is specified, only the media ID number is displayed.  Media ID number indicates the capacity of the media loaded in the drive.  The values of the IDs are set according to the capacity of the media as follows:

Capacity of Media Media ID

2 MByte 1
1 MByte 2

These data are not used to check and display the format of the media for the command and device driver.  Except media ID number, the information only indicates how a device driver allocates the formats to a device file.  In another word, the values other than media ID number has nothing to do with the media loaded in the drive.

/dev/fd0/dev/rfd0a
/dev/fd0[0−7]a/dev/rfd0[0−7]a

BUG

This does not work if a floppy disk is not loaded in the drive, because the device can not be opened.
