NAME

fddimap − Graphical FDDI ring management tool on X Window System

SYNOPSIS

fddimap [ interface ]

DESCRIPTION

fddimap is a graphical application based on X Window/Motif.  It is a tool that allows a user to monitor the status of all FDDI stations and concentrators connected to the interface periodically.  In addition to the status of the entire FDDI ring, data on individual stations and concentrators can be displayed in a window with a click on the left mouse button on the station/concentrator icon.  interface may be fn0 or fn1.  fn2 and fn3 are also possible on NWS-5000/5900.  The default is fn0.  This tool accesses the FDDI device driver directly.  It collects the necessary data from the stations and concentrators on the ring by using SMT (Station Management) frames conforming to the FDDI standard.  When the tool is run, a graphical representation of the FDDI ring is displayed.  It checks the current ring status at 10-second intervals and updates the window to reflect any changes.  Different status on each station or concentrator is represented with symbolic icons and, on a color monitor, associated colors.  Local station is distinguished by green background label.  The number in the upper left of the station and concentrator icons indicates the sequence of token rotation.  Therefore, the station or concentrator with the figure 1 displayed issues token.

Also, clicking on an icon calls up a menu for displaying each station/concentrator information.

Data collected in SMT frames are: NIF (Neighbor Information Frame), SIF (Status Information Frame) Configuration and SIF Operation.  map information

Station/concentrator vendor name, status, UNA (Upstream Neighbor Address), local, DNA (Downstream Neighbor Address) MAC addresses and, if applicable, hostname and IP address.

sifc

Number of MACs, number of master and non-master ports, SMT (Station Management) support version, node class, wrap data, whether it is a root concentrator or not, duplicate MAC address condition, twisted ring condition, configuration policy, connection policy as well as the UNA and DNA MAC addresses.

sifc(port)

Status of station/concentrator ports.

sifo

Number of frames, number of error frames, number of lost frames, numbers of transmitted/received frames, number of frames for which copy failed, maximum (T_Max), minimum (T_Min), requested (T_Req), and negotiated (T_Neg) values for TRT (Token-Rotation Timer), and TVX (Valid-Transmission Timer) value, LER (Link Error Rate), transfer priority, manufacture data and user data.

nif(dump)
sifc(dump)
sifo(dump)

Response frames from each station/concentrator are displayed.  This function is possible on NWS-5000/5900.

In addition, the following operations can be invoked from the menu bar.  FILE

CONTROL

LABEL

Changes the labels under station/concentrator icons.

STATUS

Displays the status of the local station.

ECHO Frame

Displays ECHO response frames and the associated stations and concentrators.  ECHO request frame is broadcasted to the ring every five seconds and fddimap checks ECHO response every five seconds, so nothing is displayed for the first five to ten seconds after the operation is activated.  UserData is used as ECHO frame data.

UserData

UserData can be changed, but only by super user.

T_Req

A new TRT request value can be specified in millisecond units, but only by super user.

ZOOM IN

Expands a portion of the ring with a new window.

EXIT

Terminates fddimap.

HELP

EXAMPLE

Displays and explains symbolic icons.

NOTES

On the LABEL operation, when hostname or IP address option is selected,  “????” indicates no corresponding data in the ARP (Address Resolution Protocol) table.  Also, “????” for company name indicates that it is not included in the macouis database file.
Only one fddimap may run at a time for one interface.  Also, fddiconfig may not be used on the same interface while fddimap is running.
