DESCRIPTION
faxsend is the command to send FAX to the specified telephone number of G3 facsimile machine. Send data should consists of cover page and text data. Cover page is not necessarily needed, but text data is needed. Cover page can be used as FAX notice, etc.
When the command faxsend is issued, it is stored as send request in the request queue of the machine equipped with FAX board. As it is stored in request queue, faxsend command is completed and request ID is displayed. Actual transmission processing is carried out in the order of request queue from its top, that is after completion of command.
The following options are recognized.
−nu[mber] fax-number ...
Specifies telephone number of G3 facsimile machine to send.
Specify telephone number using digits "0" through "9" and "∗", "#", "−". (But dial type line cannot use "∗" and "#".)
"−" means pause. Make dialing with two second interval per every "−".
If multiple telephone numbers are specified, same data are sent to multiple lines. (multiple transmission) Maximum number of multiple transmission is 999.
In case of multiple transmission, different cover page can be sent to every different destination.
(see−cover option.)
−fil[e] file-name
Specifies file name of text data to send.
If not specified, it is sent from standard input.
−ty[pe] data-type
Specifies data type of text data to send.
If not specified, it is processed as TIFF data.
SJIS / sjis
Shift JIS code plain text data
JIS / jis
JIS code plain text data
JEUC / jeuc
Japanese EUC plain text data
ISO8859 / iso8859
ASCII/Latin auxiliary character data
TIFF / tiff
TIFF (Tag Image File Format) bilevel image data
−co[ver] cover-filename ...
Specifies file name of cover page data to send. Cover page is not necessarily needed.
In case of multiple transmission, the same cover page or different cover page can be attached to every different destination.
If one file name of cover page data file is specified, the same cover page is attached to all destinations.
If different cover page is desired to every destination, it is needed to attach different cover page file name as many as number of destination. Specify the cover page data file name corresponding to the destination that is specified by option −number. In this case, number of telephone number that are specified by option −number and number of cover page file name should coincide.
−ct[ype] cover-type
Specifies data type of cover page to send.
If multiple cover page data are specified, type of the cover page data should be same.
If not specified, it is processed as TIFF data.
SJIS / sjis

JEUC / jeuc

ISO8859 / iso8859
ASCII/Latin auxiliary character data
TIFF / tiff
TIFF (Tag Image File Format) bilevel image data
−si[ze] paper-size
If send data (text or cover page) is plain text, paper size is specified.
If text data and cover page data are both plain text, both uses the same size.
If send data is image data, it is ignored.
(Image size is included inside image data.)
A3P / a3p / A3 / a3
A3 vertical size
A3L / a3l
A3 horizontal size (After rotation, queued as A3 vertical size. )
A4L / a4l / A4 / a4
A4 vertical size
A4L / a4l
A4 horizontal size (After rotation, queued as A4 vertical size.)
B4P / b4p / B4 / b4
B4 vertical size
B4L / b4l
B4 horizontal size (After rotation, queued as B4 vertical size.)
−he[ader] header
When sending data, message can be added in the upper portion of paper. It is called header here.
Message data of header is specified by the option −header
If following letters are included in header, they are replaced by send time or page number as below.
\P Page number (page number / total page number)
\Y Year of sending date (Christian era calendar 4 digits)
\M Month of sending data (2 digits)
\D Day of sending date (2 digits)
\h Time of sending time (2 digits)
\m Minute of sending time (2 digits)
Example)
"source:SONY Corporation (03-1111-2222) \Y/\M/\D \h:\m \P"
If specified like this, the following header is attached in the top of each page when actual transmission is processed. Send time is the time to start sending each page.
"source:SONY Corporation (03-1111-2222) 1993/01/01 12:00 1/2"
−ht[ype] header-type
Specifies type of header.
If not specified, it is processed as SJIS data.
(It is valid only when −header option is specified.)
SJIS / sjis
Shift JIS code plain text data
JIS / jis
JIS code plain text data
JEUC / jeuc
Japanese EUC plain text data
ISO8859 / iso8859
ASCII/Latin auxiliary character data
−in[side]
Specifies so that header is positioned inside the send data.
If not specified, it is positioned outside the send data.
If this option is specified to position header inside, upper portion of send data can become invisible.
If not specified to position it outside, lower portion of send data can be discarded.
(It is valid only when −header option is specified.)
−fin[e]
Specifies fine mode to send.
If not specified, it is sent in normal mode.
−or [d[ata]|c[over]|a[ll]]
When reducing image (including reduction for resolution
conversion), adjoining dots are logical added.
When data is specified, text data only is reduced in logical add mode.
When cover is specified, cover page data only is reduced in logical add mode.
When all is specified, or nothing is specified, both text data and cover page data are reduced in logical add mode.
It is effective when thin lines etc., disappear in reduction.
−ti[me]date-time
Specifies send time in specified time transmission.
Time is specified by following values.
Month: 01 − 12
Day: 01 − 31
Hour: 00 − 23
Minute: 00 − 59
It can be specified by the following three methods:
•A method using Christian era calendar year 4 digits, month 2 digits, day 2 digits, hour 2 digits, minute 2 digits totaling 12 digits.
example:
When it is desired to send at year 1993 month 1 day 1, 12 o’clock, specify as follows.
−time 199301011200
•A method using month 2 digits, day 2 digits, hour 2 digits,
minute 2 digits totaling 8 digits.
example)
When it is desired to send month 1, day 1, of 12 o’clock, specify as follows.
−time 01011200
•A method using hour 2 digits, minute 2 digits totaling 4 digits.
example)
When it is desired to send at 12 o’clock, specify as follows.
−time 1200
Depending upon the settings of the machine carrying FAX board, there are limits of time interval to specify. In normal setting, it is 10 minute interval. In this case, time is rounded off the second digits of minute.
−ma[il]
Sets so that electronic mail is issued showing send result, when send is completed.
Electronic mail is delivered to the machine carrying FAX board.
Either -mail or −mailto can be specified.
−mailto mail-addresss
Specifies mail address. The electronic mail is delivered when FAX transmission is complete.
Either -mail or −mailto can be specified.
−li[ne] line-id
When multiple lines are connected, line ID (0 or 1) is specified.
If not specified, vacant line is used.
−ho[st] host-name
Specifies host name of the machine carrying FAX board.
If not specified, the host name registered in the top of FAX host machine registration file is used.
FILES
/var/sony/etc/hosts.faxc FAX host machine registration file

DIAGNOSIS
If successful, request ID is output to standard output and exit status is 0.
If error is found before request is queued, error message is written to stderr.
NOTES
The send data that is queued by FAX daemon is deleted when send is completed. If send is failed, (send was not successful after specified times of retry due to line busy or poor line conditions), the send data that is queued by FAX daemon is deleted. This should be noted.
Depending upon capability of destination G3 facsimile machine, data can be sent in normal mode even though fine mode ( −fine option ) is specified using faxsend command.
If size of send data is other than A4 vertical size, it can be sent after reduction, depending upon capability of destination G3 facsimile machine.
