FN(4) — NEWS-OS Programmer’s Manual
NAME
fn − 100 Mb/s FDDI interface
SYNOPSIS
device fddi0 at iop0 priority 130
device fddi0 at hb0 priority 130
DESCRIPTION
The fn interface provides access to a 100 Mb/s FDDI network.
The host’s Internet address is specified at boot time with an SIOCSIFADDR ioctl. The fn interface employs the address resolution protocol described in arp(4P) to dynamically map between Internet and FDDI MAC addresses on the local network.
The interface does not support a “trailer” encapsulation as opposed to Ethernet. (complying with RFC 1188)
DIAGNOSTICS
fn%d: can’t handle af%d.
The interface was handed a message with addresses formatted in an unsuitable address family; the packet was dropped.
