xsed − X Window System sound editor

DESCRIPTION

The sound editor xsed is an application program for the editing of sound data obtained and utilized through a NEWS audio interface. It is fully compatible with X Window System Version 11 Release 4, and sjx, the Japanese language front end processor. The sound editor, xsed features the following:

Using a NEWS Audio Interface
It is possible to record and playback sound stored as digital audio data through the use of an audio interface kit, an audio interface board, or the audio interface built into some NEWS workstations. The sound data may be stored on the hard disk, sent and received over the network and used by other application software.

Editing Sound Data
Sound data waveforms corresponding to real world sound waveforms can be displayed for viewing and edited just by using the mouse. The following types of editing are possible: segment playback, cut and paste, title insertion, footnote (textual comment) insertion, etc.

Compatibility Among the Different Sound Data
xsed can handle many different sampling rates and types of coded sound data.

BUGS

Large amounts of disk space are required in accordance with the amount of the sound data being processed. Use an external hard disk unit when handling large amounts of sound data. Some sound data may be lost when data gets large to the point that the load on the the NEWS workstation is great or that disk access speed drops. This tends to occur when using data formats requiring relatively large amounts of data per unit time. Execution of some commands may take quite a bit of time depending on the length of the sound data and the processing being attempted.
