NAME
chkey − change the keyboard mapping table
SYSNOPSIS
chkey [−f filename] country
DESCRIPTION
chkey changes the keyboard mapping table which was used by the console of the NEWS bitmap display, to the keymap which is specified by country.
This is used to change the keymap for another country, after the reconfiguration of the system or when the diskless machine is installed.
−f option specify the vmunix that has the table to be changed. If the vmunix is not specified, /a/vmunix will be assumed.
After the changing table is completed, reboot the system with this vmunix.

For details on the each keymap, refer to the "Release Note" of NEWS-OS Release 3.3.
chkey is symbolic-linked to chkey.mc68020 when the environment variable ‘cputype’ is set to mc68020, and to chkey.mc68030 when the evriroment variable ‘cputype’ is set to mc68030. If the vmunix for the different cputype is changed, the execution should be done after the cputype is set for the machine.
Changing the keyboard mapping table of the vmunix on NWS-711 with NWS-1850:
setenv cputype mc68020
chkeymap −f /mnt/vmunix.news700 german
NOTICE
Once the wrong keymap is used, the key input will be very involved after the system is rebooted, because the keytop and internal code is not corresponded. Be careful!!
