NAME

samples − sample user_data directory of rendering effects

DESCRIPTION

This directory was supplied to give customers the chance to sample some of the effects available in the v2 release. SDL files are supplied in the "sdl" directory and associated images are supplied in the "pix" directory. Documentation is supplied with the user guide to explain the ideas behind the examples. However, these are brief notes to explain the intention behind the images. In particular it is worth noting that the pix files which end in "bw8" may be used to create texturing effects which are not supported procedurally in the renderer.  checker_sphere shows a checkered sphere reflected in an infinite mirror plane. 
chrome_sphere shows a chrome sphere reflected in an infinte mirror plane. 
clouds is a texture generated using a fractal to create clouds which wrap. 
cloudsbw8 is an 8-bit texture tile which may be applied as a transparency map to create clouds. 
cloudvase is a vase which has been created using cloudsbw as a transparency map. 
fractalbw8 is an 8-bit texture to be used as a normal perturbation map. 
fractalbwwater was produced using fractalbw8 as a normal map along with using skymap as the reflection map. 
fractalrockvase used fractalbw8 as a normal perturbation map
framevase used gridbw, the procedural texture, as the transparency map to produce a wire-frame-like effect. 
glassvase used transparency and reflection-mapping to simulate thin glass. 
map is a simple example of a reflection map. 
sky is a background generated from the reflection map skymap. 
skymap is a reflection map with painted clouds. It is not great art, but it does demonstrate the type of effect required for a sky. 
wavesbw8 is an 8-bit texture map which may be used to animate water waves by incrementing uoffset and voffset linearly with the frame number. 
wavesbwwater was produced using wavesbw8 as a normal perturbation map.
