NAME
     par - process activity reporting device

DESCRIPTION
     The special file /dev/par is used by the programs par(1) and padc(1) to
     gather process activity information from the kernel.  The only operations
     supported by this device are open(2), ioctl(2) and close(2).  The format
     of the information provided by this device through its ioctl(2) commands
     is not intended for use by any programs or facilities other than par(1)
     and padc(1) and is subject to change.

     The file /dev/par is a pseudo-device with no associated hardware.
