NAME
     a.out - assembler and link editor output

DESCRIPTION
     a.out is the default output file name of the link editor ld(1) and
     assembler as(1).  It is often used as a generic term referring to the
     file format of executables, shared objects, and object files.

     Mips ELF is the file format used on IRIX 5 and later systems.  More
     detailed information on this file format is available in its man page.
