LAUNCH(1X) LAUNCH(1X)

NAME
launch - graphical utility to enter and invoke commands with arguments

SYNOPSIS
     /usr/sbin/launch [[-h header] [-m msg] [-p trailer]] [-c command [args]]

DESCRIPTION
launch is a small application which consists of a text field where the
user can enter commands and their arguments for execution.

The IRIX Interactive Desktop file manager (fm) invokes launch when the
user double-clicks an icon and the icon's filetype requires additional
information before the corresponding application can be launched. End
users can also run launch program at a Unix shell command line, though
this would be unusual (it is easier to run the command itself directly).

The options to launch are as follows:

-h header Places the header header at the beginning of the command that
will be invoked but is not displayed in the application.

-p trailer Places the trailer trailer at the end of the command that is
used to invoke the command but is not displayed in the
                 application.

-m msg Displays the message msg in the application window.

-c command Sets the initial value of the text field to command.

When no arguments are specified, it comes up with its text field empty.

If the launched program requires a tty, you must call launch with the -h
option, followed by an appropriate invocation of winterm. The following
is an example of launch as used with Mail.
         launch -h winterm -c Mail

For more examples, see the *.ftr files under /usr/lib/filetype.

environment, see the IID(1) man page.
