NETPRINT(1M) Printing Tools NETPRINT(1M)

NAME
netprint - Submit lp print job to remote spooler via a network connection

SYNOPSIS
     netprint [-wv] -n net-type -h host -p printer -t convert-type request-id

DESCRIPTION
netprint sends a print request to a printer on another host. netprint is
used in the lp model file /var/spool/lp/model/netface to submit lp print
     jobs to remote printers.

USAGE
-w Wait for job to complete on remote host before exiting. This
is how netprint is normally used in an lp model file. If
netprint does not wait then as soon as it returns the lp
spooler will process the next print job and send the files to
the print server (possibly causing the print server to run out
of disk space when files are sent to the print server faster
then they can be printed). The -w option "syncs" the client
print spooler to the print server to help reduce the chance of
a print server running out of disk space.

-v Specifies verbose output for debugging purposes.

     -n net-type
Name of dso to use to communicate with remote system. Valid
names for net-type are found in the file
               /usr/lib/print/netdso/DSOLIST. Each dso implements the
functions necessary to communicate with the remote system (the
bsd dso communicates using the BSD LPR protocols, etc).

-h host Hostname or IP address of the remote system to submit the print
               job too.

     -p printer
Print spooler name on the remote host to submit the print job
               too.

     -t convert-type
convert-type specifies a file type to convert the files to
before they are sent to the remote spooler. ROUTEPRINT(1) is
used to do the file conversion. See the ROUTEPRINT(1) man page
for more information on conversion types.

                                                                        Page 1

     request-id
lp spooler request id. This is used to determine the files to
be sent to the remote system. This is the only way to specify
               files to print using netprint.

FILES
     /usr/lib/print/netprint
     /usr/lib/print/netdso/DSOLIST
     /var/spool/lp/model/netface
