NAME
EZsetup - login for basic system setup and user environment configuration
SYNOPSIS
/var/sysadmdesktop/EZsetup
DESCRIPTION
EZsetup, also referred to as System Setup, provides basic system
administration and user account configuration.
Logging in as EZsetup launches a web-based application running in a
customized version of the webviewer browser from which you can:
1. set up some basic system security
2. set up basic networking
3. add a user to the system
4. configure World Wide Web Access for the user added in step 3
5. configure portions of the Desktop for the user added in step 3
The World Wide Web Access application allows the user to set up their web
access, including default web page when the browser is launched, SOCKS
server, proxy server and Java/Javascript default settings.
Note that the configuration files format is determined by the version of
the Netscape browser installed on the system in /usr/lib/X11/netscape at
the time that EZsetup is run. Netscape 3 and Netscape 4 preference file
formats are supported.
The Configure Desktop application allows the user to choose between two
configurations that cause the desktop to behave more like a UNIX
environment or a Mac/PC environment. In the former, system notifications
appear in the system console, windows receive implicit focus when the
mouse enters their borders and the toolchest appears in a vertical
orientation. In the Mac/PC configuration style, system notifications
appear in a separate dialog box which pops up when appropriate, the user
must click in a window for it to receive input focus, and the toolchest
appears in a horizontal orientation.
Steps 1-3 are accomplished via the graphical system administration tools,
available from the System Manager . The WWWAccess and Desktop
Configuration tools are custom to EZsetup, however they both specify
which desktop applications can be used to change the settings after
logging in.
NOTES
In order for the web and desktop configuration changes to be made, the
user account must be created with a home directory that is writable by
that user at the time EZsetup is run.
