     NAME
type1xfonts - build X style font directory for Type1 fonts

     SYNOPSIS
          type1xfonts [-v] [-t type1-outline-dir] [-x x-font-dir] [-e
          extension] [-m ps2xlfd_map]

     DESCRIPTION
type1xfonts is a utility normally run during the
installation process which creates a Type1 font directory
suitable for use with the X server or font server. Symbolic
links are made to Type1 fonts elsewhere on the system and a
fonts.scale file is created. After the links are made,
type1xfonts will run mkfontdir to generate the necessary
fonts.dir file. If some condition exists that prevents
type1xfonts from effectively generating a directory, the
utility at least attempts to create a fonts.dir file with a
"0" in it to indicate an empty font directory; if a
fonts.dir file already exists, it is left alone.

Warning: The old contents of fonts.scale will be overwritten
and symbolic link names are removed before creating the new
          links.

     OPTIONS
type1xfonts supports the following getopt(3) style command
          line options:

-v Verbose output (not very verbose).

          -d Debug output.

          -t type1-outline-directory
Specifies the directory containing the Type1 fonts to
use. If unspecified, the directory is
              /usr/lib/DPS/outline/base.

          -x x-font-directory
Specifies the directory to construct symbolic links in
and a fonts.scale file. If unspecified, the directory
              is /usr/lib/X11/fonts/Type1.

          -e font-extension
Specifies the extension to be appended to the symbolic
link names. If unspecified, the extension is .pfa
              indicating a text Type1 font.

          -m ps2xlfd_map
Specifies the PostScript to XLFD mapping file. This
overrides the use of the PS2XLFD_MAP environment
              variable and the default /usr/lib/X11/fonts/ps2xlfd_map
location. This file and any files in the same directory

ending in a dot-started suffix will be searched for
mappings. For example, you can create a file
              /usr/lib/X11/fonts/ps2xlfd_map.local for your own local
              mappings.

          -r root
Specifies the root directory. This command is useful
for exitops run from the mini-root at install time when
              / is really /root.

     ENVIRONMENT VARIABLES
PS2XLFD_MAP environment variable determines where to find
the file supplying the mapping from Type1 font names to X
XLFD names. If unset, /usr/lib/X11/fonts/ps2xlfd_map is
          used.
