devport − assign a serial port to an external graphics device

SYNOPSIS

devport [ −t portno ] [ −d portno ]

DESCRIPTION

The serial ports on the back panel of the IRIS are called 0 through 3.  Port 0 is used to connect the keyboard to the IRIS system. The remaining ports may be used to connect additional terminals to the IRIS, or to connect graphics peripherals such as a dial and button box, or a digitizing tablet.  The system software initially assumes that a dial box or a tablet will be connected to port number 3. However, if both a dial box and a tablet are to be used with the IRIS, the system must be told the port that is being used for each device.  The program devport allows external graphics peripherals like the dial box and the digitizing tablet to be assigned to specific serial ports on the back of the IRIS.  Following the −t option with a port number between 1 and 3 assigns the port for the digitizing tablet.  Following the −d option with a port number between 1 and 3 assigns the port for the dial box.  This command can be installed in /etc/rc so it happens on system start-up. 

NOTE

This program should be used before the devices are accessed for the first time.
