sys_id − system identification

DESCRIPTION

The file /etc/sys_id contains the name that the system will be known as on communications networks such as uucp(1) and XNS.  It should be no more than eight lower-case letters and digits (to maintain compatibility with uucp) with a trailing newline.  During system startup this file is read by /etc/rc and supplied as a parameter to /etc/sethost.  Various network programs such as uucp(1), mail(1), and the XNS programs do a gethostname(2) system call to determine the name of the local system.
