     JET(6D) JET(6D)

     NAME
jet - depthcued wireframe model of a jet fighter

     SYNOPSIS
          /usr/demos/jet

     DESCRIPTION
Jet displays a wireframe model of a jet airplane. The image
includes 660 vectors and can be displayed with constant in-
tensity or depth cuing. Operator controls (pop-up menus and
sliders) adjust the viewing position and enable or disable
          depth cuing.

The standard window manager version of jet is depth cued us-
ing 32 gamma corrected shades of red.

To change the display, press the right mouse button to
display a popup menu. Move the cursor until the menu option
you select is highlighted and release the button. To get
rid of the menu without changing the display, move the cur-
sor clear of the menu and release the button. In some
modes, sliders appear to control the movement of the jet.
          See slider operation section below.

        pop-up menu operation
Select the window for input. Press and hold the right mouse
button. A menu appears. Move the cursor to the menu entry
for the desired mode and release the right mouse button.
The Rotate, Translate, and Scale menu entries bring up slid-
ers and put the manipulation of the jet under slider con-
trol. If the jet is not moving, the Motion selection begins
to constantly rotate the jet. If the jet is already in mo-
tion, the Motion selection freezes the object. Depth Cue
turns depth cuing on and off. Kill exits the program.

        slider operation
When the sliders are displayed, they can be used to control
the view of the object. Move the cursor into one of the
three slider regions, which correspond to x, y and z axes.
Press and hold the right mouse button. Without releasing the
button, move the mouse from left to right. The slider moves
with the mouse, and the object is transformed (rotated,
scaled or translated) in the direction of the chosen slider
          (x, y or z).

To stop displaying the sliders, move the cursor out of the
region of the sliders. Now press the right mouse button.
The pop-up menu appears. Move the cursor out of the pop-up
menu and release the right mouse button so that no menu op-
tion is selected. The sliders will have disappeared.

In Rotate and Translate slider modes, each of the three

     JET(6D) JET(6D)

sliders (x, y and z) moves independently. In Scale slider
mode, all three sliders move together. This prevents scal-
ing the object in only one dimension, which produces an
          unattractive and distorted image.

     WINDOW MANAGER
If the jet is in constant motion, it stays in motion, even
          if the window is detached.
