showsvcs(PADM) 06 January 1993 showsvcs(PADM) Name showsvcs - monitor and/or validate network names, addresses, and services Syntax showsvcs [-a servername] [-g servertype] [-n servertype] Description showsvcs allows network and system administrators to monitor and/or vali- date network names, addresses, and services. Depending on the option specified, it lists addresses of specified servers, or lists the names of servers of a specified type, or lists the name and address of the nearest server offering a specified service. showsvcs queries the Service Advertising Protocol Daemon (SAPD). In the event that network routers or SAPD (local or remote) fail, network ser- vices are either not reported or reported incompletely. showsvcs can be used as a diagnostic tool to monitor the operation of SAP daemons. showsvcs options are interpreted as follows: -a servername specifies that the addresses of the services offered by the specified server should be listed. Note that because the given server may advertise more than one set of services, this option may report a list of addresses. -g servertype specifies that information about servers offering the specified type of service should be listed. A server type of FFFF serves as a wildcard, listing all servers known to the host on which the command was issued. -n servertype specifies that information about the nearest server of- fering the specified service should be listed When invoked without options, showsvcs lists all servers known to the host on which the command was issued. This is equivalent to invoking showsvcs with the -g FFFF option.
