nping(PADM) 06 January 1993 nping(PADM) Name nping - send packet to network hosts and receive replies Syntax nping [ -o type ] hostname [ count ] Description nping verifies the correct operation of IPX/SPX networks. nping transmits IPX packets to hostname. The packets are received on hostname by the XECHO daemon. The remote XECHO daemon echoes the packets back to nping, which writes a line to the standard output for every received packet. The options are interpreted as follows: count specifies the number of packets to send. This must be a posi- tive number. -o type specifies the object type of the XECHOD. This defaults to FFFE. If the XECHOD is reconfigured, then this option may be required to specify the newly configured object type. In most circumstances, the use of this option is unnecessary. nping should be used first to verify that the IPX/SPX network is up on the local host. Then, nping should be used to verify if the network links to other hosts are up. Standards conformance nping is not part of any currently supported standard; it is an extension of AT&T System V provided by the Santa Cruz Operation.
