mainnet(LM) 19 June 1992 mainnet(LM) Name mainnet - set or return information about which network is primary on a client with co-resident protocol stacks. Syntax mainnet [ 0 | 1 ] Description On a LAN Manager Client running over co-resident protocol stacks, such as NetBEUI and TCP/IP NetBIOS, one of the protocol stacks is designated as the primary network and the other as the secondary network. This dis- tinction is important in the case where the same computername is used by both a server on the NetBEUI network and a server on the TCP/IP network. When connecting to a server, the client tries to connect to a server with the name specified in the net use command over the primary network first. If no server of that name responds over the primary network, the client then tries to connect to a server of that same name over the secondary network. For the purposes of this command, one of the protocol stacks is denoted by the number 0 and the other by the number 1. Network 0 is the first network that LAN Manager was configured over during the most recent con- figuration of LAN Manager. Network 1 is the second network that LAN Man- ager was configured over. To see which network is the primary network and which is the secondary network, enter mainnet with no arguments. The command returns either 0 or 1, depending on which network is primary. If you wish to make network 0 the primary network, enter mainnet 0. If you wish to make network 1 the primary network, enter mainnet 1. When you reboot the client, the designation of which network is primary and which is secondary reverts to the state that existed just after both networks were last configured. Notes Only the network administrator can designate which network is primary. All users can use mainnet with no arguments to find out which network is the primary network. Files /etc/mainnet
