netconfig(ADM)

 ncfg(ADM) 19 June 1992 ncfg(ADM)

 Name

ncfg - menu-driven network configuration utility

 Syntax

    ncfg

 Description

ncfg is a menu-driven interface helping users to create links between
networking products such as Microsoft LAN Manager for UNIX systems, SCO
NetBIOS for TCP/IP, SCO TCP/IP, and one or more networking cards. ncfg
assembles compatible sets of networking products into functional groups
called ``chains''. With ncfg you can configure, modify or remove network-
    ing chains.

ncfg replaces the interactive version of netconfig.

 Usage

To use ncfg, login as the super-user (root) and enter:

       ncfg

The ncfg main menu appears with the following options:

Add Add and configure a chain of networking products.

If you select Add, a window is opened displaying your network-
ing software (for example SCO TCP/IP or SCO NFS Runtime System
for SCO UNIX). After selecting a networking product, ncfg gen-
erates a list of compatible products, given the hard-and-soft-
              ware installed on your system.

For example, if you want to use SCO TCP/IP to run a Western
Digital 8003/8013 card, you first select TCP/IP. After you
select TCP/IP, ncfg provides you with a list of drivers. You
then select the appropriate Western Digital driver for your
              networking card.

During configuration, ncfg invokes each product's initializa-
tion procedure. Depending on the hard-and-software installed
on your system, you may be prompted to supply information about
your protocol stack, NetBIOS or networking card.

Refer to the networking product manual for the specifications
              required.

After you provide a final verification, ncfg enables the net-
working chain and asks you if you want to relink the kernel.

    Remove Remove a chain.

If Remove is selected, a window is opened containing a list of
all of the currently configured networking chains. For example,
if you have SCO TCP/IP and a Western Digital 8003/8013 card, a
chain resembling the following appears on your screen:

                 sco_tcp -> wdn0

After you select a chain to be removed, ncfg performs all the
required procedures for its removal. Depending on the chain
removed, you may be prompted to supply information about your
protocol stack, NetBIOS or networking card.

Refer to the networking product manual for the specifications
              required.

Modify Modify and reconfigure a chain.

If you select Modify, a window opens displaying all of the
currently configured chains. Select the part of the chain you
want to reconfigure. During reconfiguration, ncfg invokes each
product's initialization procedure. Depending on which part of
the chain you are reconfiguring, you may be prompted to supply
information about your protocol stack, NetBIOS or networking
              card.

Refer to the networking product manual for the specifications
              required.

List List the names of the currently installed chains.

    Quit Exit ncfg.
