ASYHDLC(7) ASYHDLC(7)
NAME
ASYHDLC - ASYnchronous HDLC protocol device
SYNOPSIS
asyhdlc
DESCRIPTION
The ASYHDLC device is attached to an asynchronous serial line
so that PPP may use that line to transmit and receive IP
datagrams.
A PPP HDLC packet lacks a CRC checksum and uses a
``transparent code'' for data transmission. ASYHDLC performs
the following functions on PPP datagrams:
generates and validates the CRC checksum
encodes and decodes packet data to achieve data
transparency - character stuffing
generates and strips framing patterns delimiting packet
start and end
See PPP(7) for additional information about the PPP
implementation.
