      GETTYTAB(5) GENIX Programmer's Manual GETTYTAB(5)

      NAME
gettytab - terminal line description database

      SYNOPSIS
           /etc/gettytab

      DESCRIPTION
Each time a new instance of getty(8) starts up, it reads gettytab to
obtain information on what line characteristics are appropriate for
           the terminal port in question.

Gettytab is structured as a sequence of lines of the form:

type nexttype speed initflags finalflags loginmsg

Fields are separated by spaces. Blank lines and lines starting with
           the character `#' are comments.

Type and nexttype name entries in gettytab; type names the current
entry, and nexttype gives the name of the next entry for getty to
try (after it receives a break). Entries are usually arranged in
cycles. Because init passes a single character to getty as argu-
ment, the type of the first entry in a cycle should consist of a
single character. Entries that are not directly accessible may have
           multi-character types.

Speed gives the line speed to use; legal values are: 0, 50, 75, 110,
           134, 134.5, 150, 200, 300, 600, 1200, 1800, 2400, 4800, 9600, 19200,
EXTA, EXTB, and ?. The last of these denotes unknown speed; it
tells getty to apply its auto-baud routine to determine the true
           line speed.

Initflags and finalflags give mode flags (as in
/usr/include/sgtty.h) for getty to apply respectively when reading
the login name and afterwards. Legal values are: ANYP, BS1, CBREAK,
           CR1, CR2, CR3, CRMOD, ECHO, EVENP, FF1, LCASE, NL1, NL2, NL3, ODDP,
RAW, TAB1, TAB2, TANDEM, and XTABS. Multiple values may be given,
           separated by `|'.

Loginmsg is a string to be printed immediately before the banner.
Control characters and spaces are represented by C-style escapes.

      EXAMPLE
Here is a sample pair of entries:

           # VT100 and similar terminals:
           #    Cycles between 9600 and 19200 baud;
           # makes the banner line double width.
           v v19200 9600 ANYP|RAW|NL1|CR1 ANYP|XTABS|ECHO|CRMOD \33<\33[2J\33#6
           v19200 v 19200 ANYP|RAW|NL1|CR1 ANYP|XTABS|ECHO|CRMOD \33<\33[2J\33#6
