smtd(1M) — ADMINISTRATOR COMMANDS
NAME
smtd − FDDI Station Management (SMT) error and event daemon
SYNOPSIS
smtd [ −v ] [ −w ] [ −uuserdata ] [ −ooutfile ]
DESCRIPTION
smtd, the FDDI SMT error and event daemon, is normally run at boot time by the /etc/init.d/smtdinit initialization file. When started, smtd opens /dev/m385_c0d0, and registers itself as an SMT monitor with both the mvme385 driver and the mvme385 board. It then sets the management information base (MIB) parameter fddiSMTUserData, to the string userdata.
In operation, smtd receives error and event indications from the onboard SMT firmware on the mvme385, and posts them to the file outfile.
Options
−v produces verbose output. This option is only useful for debugging.
−w produces a single line warning on the system console when an SMT error or event occurs, in addition to the normal output to outfile. The default is to not print warnings to the console.
−o causes the output to be written to the file outfile. The default is /dev/tty.
−u allows the MIB parameter fddiSMTUserData to be specified. This parameter is set to userdata in the MIB on the mvme385, and is visible to other nodes on the FDDI ring.
