executable file             Definition            executable file




An  executable file  is one  that can be  loaded directly  by the
operating system  and executed.  Normally, an  executable file is
one  that  has both  been  compiled, where  it  is rendered  into
machine  language, and  linked,  where the  compiled program  has
received  all operating  system-specific information  and library
functions.
