  NAME

    id - Displays user and group IDs and names

  SYNOPSIS

    id

  DESCRIPTION

    The id command outputs the user and group IDs and the corresponding names
    of the invoking process.  If the effective and real IDs are different,
    both are displayed.

  EXAMPLES

    The following example shows how to invoke id:

    id

    A sample output follows:

    uid=72(Herbert) gid=3(sys)
