LOG(1) —
NAME
log - tell the Andrew Cache Manager about your password (AFS only)
SYNOPSIS
log [ name ]
DESCRIPTION
This command enables a user to inform the Cache Manager of his or her password. The Andrew Cache Manager passes the user name and password to an Authentication Server which responds with a token representing the user’s identity. Remote file server requests can then be made by the Cache Manager on the user’s behalf. Normally, the programs login(1) and su(1) do this for the user. However, if the local instance of the Cache Manager has crashed, this command can be used to tell the new one about a user’s password. Also, the user’s token is invalidated every 25 hours, regardless of failures. This requires the user to verify his or her identity again.
