actman
PURPOSE
Lets you interact with multiple virtual terminals.
SYNOPSIS
actman
DESCRIPTION
The actman command is the Activity Manager for the AIX
Operating System. It is normally run by the AIX logger
in the same manner as any program listed in the
/etc/passwd file. Once started by the logger, actman
creates the initial shell (/bin/sh) and monitors the
number of open virtual terminals until all have been
closed. It then exits to the AIX init process. If you
try to end the initial shell when other virtual terminals
are still open, actman restarts the initial shell.
To take advantage of the multiple virtual terminal capa-
bility, use the open command (see page 673) to execute
another shell in a separate virtual terminal.
Notes:
1. You must log out of each existing shell to end your
login session.
2. You do not need an Activity Manager if you do not
have virtual terminal capabilities. Thus if you do
not log in from the local console, actman overlays
itself with the initial shell.
