appletalk(1M)
NAME
appletalk - enables you to bring AppleTalk down or display network information
SYNOPSIS
appletalk [-D] [-n] [-p] [-s]
ARGUMENTS
-D Allows a superuser to force AppleTalk down. All MAE sessions should be down before this option is used. This command option should be used with care since it terminates all AppleTalk network activity, and forces a close of DDP, ATP and ADSP sockets.
-n Displays the current AppleTalk node address.
-p Displays the AppleTalk interface, zone name, and network stored in the user’s .mac/hostname/sm.vpram file. You can use this option with the -n or -s option.
-s Displays Link Address Protocol (LAP) and Datagram Delivery Protocol (DDP) statistics and error counts if AppleTalk is active.
DESCRIPTION
appletalk displays the status of AppleTalk and can be used to bring AppleTalk down. Any user can display statistics, but only the superuser may bring AppleTalk down with the -D option.
The -D option is used to force down AppleTalk in the situation where an MAE user did not exit MAE cleanly (such as a kill -9 of macd). The -D option will force the internal kernel state of AppleTalk to offline, and clean up any outstanding requests.
EXAMPLES
To bring AppleTalk down, enter this command line:
