NAME

softmerge − SoftBench command to re-read softinit files

SYNOPSIS

softmerge [ -h host ] [ -d dir ] [ -f file ] [ file(s) ]

DESCRIPTION

softmerge is a SoftBench (see softbench(5)), command which sends a SOFTINIT MERGE request to the SoftBench Message Server.  This will cause softinit files to be re-read so changes to SoftBench execution management can be made while SoftBench is running.  If a line in the softinit file conflicts with an entry already in the database, the entry in the softinit file takes precedence over the old value.  The form of a softinit file is described in the Installing SoftBench Products manual.  By default, the MERGE message is handled by the softinit program.  The only interface to the softinit program is through the message server.  Invoking it from the command line will have no effect.  Instead, softmerge should be used to send the MERGE message.  If softinit files are specified in the softmerge command, those files will be read and their contents will be merged into the execution management database.  If no file is specified, the program attempts to find the files to merge.  If the message server has the $SOFTINIT shell environment variable defined, it value should be a space separated list of host:/path specifications.  Each of these softinit files will be merged into the execution management database.  If the $SOFTINIT shell environment variable is not set, /usr/softbench/config/softinit will be first be merged, and then $HOME/.softinit will be merged.  This allows users to put only changes to the default environment into their $HOME/.softinit file.
