NAME

nettlgen − generate network tracing and logging commands

SYNOPSIS

/etc/conf/nettlgen

DESCRIPTION

nettlgen rebuilds the nettl and netfmt commands from information in configuration file /etc/conf/nettlgen.conf, and can be run only by a user with appropriate privileges.  nettlgen creates the temporary files ss_info.c, nui_info.c, netfmt.mk, and nettl.mk.  These files are created in the current working directory, so the directory must be writable.  The newly built netfmt and nettl commands are then copied over to the /etc directory.  If the file /etc/netfmt or /etc/nettl already exists, the existing file is moved to /etc/#netfmt or /etc/#nettl respectively.

nettlgen command is used primarily during the installation of new subsystems.  After update has copied the product files for the new subsystem onto the host system, the product’s customize script runs the nettlconf and nettlgen commands.  Any errors that result are place in file /tmp/nettlgen.log.
