NAME

mesg − permit or deny messages to terminal

SYNOPSIS

mesg n
mesg y
mesg

DESCRIPTION

The command form mesg n forbids messages via write(1) by revoking non-user write permission on the user’s terminal. mesg y reinstates permission.  mesg without any other argument reports the current state without changing it.

RETURN VALUE

mesg returns the following values:

0 Messages are receivable. 

1 Messages are not receivable.  2 An error occurred.
