NAME

chsh − change default login shell

SYNOPSIS

chsh name [ shell ]

DESCRIPTION

Chsh is a command similar to passwd(1), but is used to change the login shell field of the password file rather than the password entry.  Any of /bin/sh, /bin/csh, or /bin/ksh can be specified as the shell.  If unspecified, the shell reverts to the default login shell /bin/sh.

The file /etc/passwd can be implemented as a Yellow Pages database.  Chsh can change only the local /etc/passwd file.
