setup(1M)
NAME
setup − set up the system for use
SYNOPSIS
/usr/sbin/setup
DESCRIPTION
The setup command starts a menu-driven program that makes it easy for a privileged user to initiate or modify the system configuration. setup offers context sensitive help at any point in the program by pressing the F1 function key. Status messages show whether or not a task succeeded, and any errors that occurred.
The setup command changes the system configuration in the following areas:
Set the system clock:
The user can set the date and time for the system.
Set the timezone:
The user can select a timezone from a list of known timezones or enter a new TZ value.
Set the nodename:
The user can set the nodename field of the utsname structure on the system.
Verify password protection on system accounts:
The user can protect the system from unauthorized modification of the machine configuration and software by giving passwords to the administrative and maintenance functions.
The user can give passwords to system logins such as "root", "bin", etc. (provided they do not already have passwords). Once given a password, each login can only be changed by that login or by the superuser.
Add new users:
The user is permitted to add logins to the system.
