NAME
clean8mm - preparations for cleaning an 8mm magnetic tape drive

SYNOPSIS
     clean8mm [-q] [tapename]

DESCRIPTION
clean8mm prepares an 8mm magnetic tape drive for cleaning. Once
clean8mm has been called, the device can be cleaned in accordance with
the instructions on the cleaning cassette.

If you have already inserted the cleaning cassette before calling
clean8mm, the cassette must be inserted again after you have called up
clean8mm (close or push in door).

The -q option suppresses messages from clean8mm. tapename must corre-
spond to the format described under stape(7). If no tapename is speci-
fied, the environment variable TAPE must exist and contain tapename.

NOTE
clean8mm must be called as the "Auto Load" option on the 8mm magnetic
tape drive is normally switched off. Cleaning can only take place,
however, when the "Auto Load" option is active. After clean8mm has
been called, the "Auto Load" option remains switched on until the next
time the tape is accessed normally.
