NAME
group.local - selection list for global group entries

SYNOPSIS
     /etc/group.local

DESCRIPTION
The /etc/group.local file is used to update the local /etc/group file
from the group.byname NIS server map if the new procedure for global
user administration (GLOBALPW=new in /etc/default/inet) has been
     selected.

The entries in /etc/group.local have the same structure as those in
     /etc/group:

     groupname:password:groupnamenumber:listofparticipants

The list of participants comprises user names separated by a comma.

By means of entries in /etc/group.local, global entries can be

     - transferred to the local /etc/group file. These entries begin with
        "+group_name".

     - excluded from the transfer. These entries begin with a
"-group_name" and are not transferred if they are listed in a sub-
sequent "+" entry. Conversely, preceding "+" entries are not
        affected by this.

     - transferred with modified attributes. These entries begin with a
"+group_name"; the attributes specified below are not empty how-
ever, and overwrite the attributes of the global entry. The excep-
tion here is the field group number, which cannot be overwritten.

Global entries for whose group number or name an entry already exists
in the local /etc/group file, are not transferred to the /etc/group
     file.

Following every update of /etc/group, it is recorded in the
/var/yp/ypgrps file whether an entry in /etc/group is local or global.
All global entries that were transferred to /etc/group at the last
     update are entered here.
