vigrp(1M) vigrp(1M)
NAME
vigrp - edit the group file
SYNOPSIS
vigrp [-dns] [-m n] [-w n] [name]
DESCRIPTION
vigrp edits the group file name (/etc/group by default), folding long
lines at a group member boundary. A "\" at the end of a line indicates
that a group member list continues on the next line.
vigrp is particularly useful for viewing and modifying group files
having lines longer than some text editors are able to handle. The vi
editor will be used unless the environment variable EDITOR indicates
an alternate editor. If the group file is currently being edited or
the user does not have write permission for the containing directory,
the file will be opened read-only. After leaving the editor, if the
file was modified and the -n option was not given, the file will be
checked with grpck(1M).
OPTIONS
-d Displays duplicate entries.
-m n Displays a maximum of n group members per line.
-n Don't check the modified file with grpck.
-s Sorts the entries by group number and group member, removing
duplicates.
-w n Displays a maximum line width of n characters (default 80).
FILES
The contents of name are copied to /tmp/group.XXXXXX, which is then
passed to the editor with long lines folded. If changes were made, the
folded lines are concatenated and written to name.tmp, grpck is run
over the file (if -n is not specified), name is renamed to oname, and
name.tmp is renamed to name.
SEE ALSO
