admuserlicense(1M) DG/UX R4.11MU05 admuserlicense(1M)
NAME
admuserlicense - manage DG/UX user license
SYNOPSIS
admuserlicense -o list [ -ciu ]
admuserlicense -o upgrade -t licensetoken
admuserlicense -o exempt user
DESCRIPTION
The DG/UX Operating System license allows for a maximum number of
users to log into the system concurrently. The admuserlicense
command will display information about the user license and current
users on the system, and provides an operation for upgrading the user
license.
Operations
The operations that can be performed by admuserlicense are:
list The list operation has three options (-c, -i, -u). At
least one option must be given.
-c display the number of users licensed for the system and the
current number of users counted by usermond(1M).
-i display information the system administrator may need to
upgrade a system's license.
-u display a list of users currently on the system. The list
includes an entry for each user that would be counted by the
usermond(1M) server.
upgrade Increase the number of licensed users. This operation
requires a license token which is obtained from Data
General. The license token is a 34 character encrypted
string. Note that this string is case sensitive.
exempt Designate one user on the system to be exempt from license
enforcement. See usermond(1M).

/etc/license.dat are copied to /etc/licenseold.dat.

NOTES
Since the admuserlicense -o list -c command reads license data from
/var/license/.licensedata, it is possible for the list -c operation
and the list -u operation to report conflicting data. Usermond(1M)
periodically writes to /var/license/.licensedata, every 15 minutes
by default. The current user count reported by the list -c operation
is the current user count according to usermond(1M). Thus, this
count can be out of date (up to 15 minutes by default). The list -u
operation lists the users that would be counted by usermond at the
present time. Therefore, it is possible for the list -c operation to
report a user count that differs from the number of users listed by
the list -u operation.
You must have appropriate privilege to use this command. For systems
supporting the DG/UX Capability Option, appropriate privilege is
defined as having one or more specific capabilities enabled in the
effective capability set of the user. See capdefaults(5) for the
default capabilities for this command.
On systems without the DG/UX Capability Option, appropriate privilege
means that your process has an effective UID of root. See the
appropriateprivilege(5) man page for more information.
