dgs_syslog(1M) DG/UX R4.11 dgs_syslog(1M)
NAME
dgssyslog - Data General syslog interface daemon
SYNOPSIS
/usr/sbin/dgssyslog
DESCRIPTION
The dgssyslog daemon processes error information it receives from
the syslogd daemon. It creates an AV/Alert machine initiated packet
with this information and forwards it to the dgsvcd daemon. With
AV/Alert support enabled, for Data General warranty and contract
customers, the daemon will automatically send the information to the
designated Data General service center.
The syslogd daemon will send any errors above the level of kern.crit
to the dgssyslog daemon. This is determined by the line below that
exists in /etc/syslog.conf:
kern.crit /var/adm/dgsvcmgr/log.com
EXAMPLES
The following error was received by the syslogd daemon, sent to the
dgssyslog daemon, and written to /var/adm/dgsvcmgr/dgsvcdlog:
(11-7-91 11:47:0) (dgssyslog) Error : Nov 7 11:47:00
system_name test: message
This message indicates that a program called test sent the message
"message" to the syslogd daemon.
FILES
/var/adm/dgsvcmgr/dgsvcdlog The log file for dgssyslog.
/var/adm/dgsvcmgr/log.com The pipe to communicate with syslogd.
/var/adm/dgsvcmgr/.sv.pipe The pipe to communicate with dgsvcd.

DIAGNOSTICS
dgssyslog exits if:
1) It cannot initiate a process to run in
2) It cannot connect to dgsvcd to report an error
3) It cannot connect to syslogd
