da(7) DG/UX 5.4.2 da(7)

NAME
da - AViiON family disk array subsystem

DESCRIPTION
The da disk array subsystem provides for disk array units configured
on an AViiON family High Availability Disk Array adapter, hada(7).

Each da unit consists of an array (three or more disks), a disk
mirror (two disks), or a single disk which must be associated with a
particular adapter controller using the gridman(1M) utility, before
it may be used. This process is described in gridman(1M).

A da unit may be accessed directly via the special file nodes in
/dev/pdsk and /dev/rpdsk. These nodes are named in the form:

       /dev/[r]pdsk/da(adap@c(addr),d)

       where:

adap is the name of the disk array adapter through which the unit is
       accessed,

c is the hexadecimal device code of the disk array adapter,

addr is the control space address of the disk array adapter,

and d is the hexadecimal da unit number.

Device nodes in /dev/pdsk provide access as a block special device as
described in dsk(7). Device nodes in /dev/rpdsk provide access as a
character special device as described in rdsk(7). When accessing a
disk through a /dev/pdsk or /dev/rpdsk node, the operating system
       performs no bad block remapping.

An example of a node for a da device is:

       /dev/rpdsk/da(hada@30(FFFF1000),6)

The /dev/rpdsk/da pathname specifies a character-special da unit, and
hada names the disk array adapter. The interface is accessed through
device code 30. The node specifies disk unit 6, which is the unit
       number assigned by gridman(1M).
