NAME
       mesg - permit or deny messages

SYNOPSIS
       mesg [ n ] [ y ]

DESCRIPTION
       mesg n Prevents other users from sending you messages with
                 write(1). (It takes away non-user write permission on the
                 user's terminal).

       mesg y Resets the permission so that you can receive messages.

       mesg Reports the current state without changing it.

EXAMPLES
       $ mesg
       is y

       $ mesg n
       $ mesg
       is n

       In the above example, the user has turned off the ability to receive
       messages.

FILES
       /dev/tty*

DIAGNOSTICS
       Exit status is 0 if messages are receivable, 1 if not, 2 on error.
