Eclipse MV/family physical console
_________________________________________________________________
DESCRIPTION
Every Eclipse MV/family system provides a physical console
terminal interface, which allows the system administrator to
communicate with the processor when the operating system has not
yet been booted (for example, during the power-up sequence).
Once the system has been booted, the same terminal may be used
through the operating system as a normal terminal.
Most Eclipse MV/family systems have an actual physical console
device, while some emulate the console interface using another
device. The con device driver manages a physical console device.
This device is not directly accessible through a special file,
but rather through the general "operating system console" device
(see syscon(7)).
The physical console is placed into SCP (System Control Program)
mode by pressing the BREAK key on the console terminal. The
prompt SCP-CLI> indicates that the processor is awaiting SCP
commands. To return to normal operation from SCP mode, type TTY
or CONT (depending upon the type of MV/family system) and press
New Line.
