SYNTAX
enable printers
disable [-c] [-r[reason]] printers
DESCRIPTION
Enable activates the named printers, enabling them to print
requests taken by lp(1). Use lpstat(1) to find the status of
printers.
Disable deactivates the named printers, disabling them from
printing requests taken by lp(1). By default, any requests that
are currently printing on the designated printers will be
reprinted in their entirety either on the same printer or on
another member of the same class. Use lpstat(1) to find the
status of printers. Options useful with disable are:
-c Cancel any requests that are currently printing on
any of the designated printers.
-r[reason] Associates a reason with the deactivation of the
printers. This reason applies to all printers
mentioned up to the next -r option. If the -r
option is not present or the -r option is given
without a reason, then a default reason will be
used. Reason is reported by lpstat(1).

EXAMPLES
$ enable lpt
Start the printer "lpt". If requests to the printer were waiting
in the queue, they would begin to print.
$ disable -r"printer maintenance being performed" lpt
Stop the printer. If a file is printing it will be reprinted.
The -r option adds a reason for the stoppage. The lpstat -t
command will show the status along with the reason, time and
other information.
