NAME

xw − X.25 network interface for IP

DESCRIPTION

The xw interface provides the Internet Protocol (IP) with a wide area network interface, allowing IP messages to be sent across a Packet Switched Data Network (PSDN).  The xw network interface is seen by the IP as a non-broadcast interface.  It is not considered a point-to-point link.

The parameters used to make and accept the X.25 calls that carry the IP traffic are specified by the network manager using the x25setup utility.  Based on the information supplied by the network manager, x25setup generates the necessary x25ifconfig commands to start IP over X.25 at boot time.  For more information on configuring IP over X.25, refer to the X.25 for Digital UNIX − Configuration Guide.

NOTES

When configuring IP over X.25, the network manager is free to set up any of the fields in the template and filter to any value that satisfies the local PSDN or other conventions.  However, to conform to RFC 877, it is recommended that the following conventions be followed:

•The Call Data attribute in the template should contain the value 204 decimal (0xcc hex).

•The Call Data Mask and Call Data Value attributes in the filter should contain the values 255 and 204 decimal (0xff and 0xcc hex), respectively.

•The priority of the filter used to match incoming IP calls should be set higher than that of any other filters that may also match these calls, so as to avoid IP calls being matched against filters that are being used for other purposes.
