1 OVERVIEW
SIGHT ( Simple Interactive Graphics Handling Tool ) is an object
oriented editor. VWS/SIGHT 3.3 has many more features than the
former, unsupported version of sight which was previously included in
the VWS DEMO package.
The SIGHT kit is part of the MicroVMS Workstation software kit but is
installed separately. See the manual for the installation procedure.
Also, the MicroVMS Workstation software kit includes HCUIS. HCUIS
enables users and applications to translate UIS pictures to the
formats needed to print them on a variety of hard copy devices. Using
the RENDER command, you can translate the picture in a UIS file to a
format suitable for the hard copy device that you are using.
NOTE
If you don't already have MicroVMS Workstation
Software V3.3 installed on your VAXstation, you should
obtain it and install it prior to installing SIGHT.
2 RESTRICTIONS
o If you have previously defined a symbol for SIGHT in your
login command procedure or in SYS$LOGIN then remove it.
Failure to do so will produce the following error,
%CLI-F-SYNTAX error parsing 'filespec', when SIGHT is invoked
via the DCL command SIGHT.
o It is recommended that the line, $@SIGHT$STARTUP.COM, be
included in your SYSTARTUP.COM file in SYS$SYSROOT:[SYSMGR].
If the logical SIGHT$DIRECTORY, which indicates the location
of the menu files, is not defined then SIGHT will not run.
o Since the current version of VWS/SIGHT accesses a large
number of font files, you might experience problems if the
FILLM quota for your process is too low. A FILLM quota of
100 is recommended.
o Editing empty .UIS files which were created by SIGHT is NOT
supported. Attempting to edit such SIGHT files may cause
unexpected behavior.
