Overview
=TITLE Overview =TITLE Overview of the CDA Viewer =KEYWORD Overview The CDA Viewer lets you look at Compound Document Architecture (CDA) files on your screen. The default file format for the CDA Viewer is Digital Document Interchange Format (DDIF). DDIF is a standard format for the storage and interchange of compound documents. Compound documents contain multiple elements, for example, text and graphics. The CDA Viewer displays only files that are in DDIF format. You can display a file that is not in DDIF format if a DDIF converter exists for the file's format. The CDA Viewer converts the file to DDIF format before the file is displayed. The CDA Viewer can also display PostScript files when running to displays with servers containing the Display PostScript Extension. To view a PostScript file, specify PS as your format when opening a PostScript document. For more information about using the CDA Viewer, double click on an item from the list of additional topics below. For information about using help, choose an item from the Using Help menu above.

=TITLE post_opts =TITLE PostScript Options =KEYWORD PostScript Additional options specific to viewing PostScript are available in the Paper Size dialog box. These options are only valid for PostScript viewing and are ignored for all other file formats. The following PostScript options are available: - Scale Factor - Orientation - Use Comments - Use Bitmap Widths - Use Fake Trays - Watch Progress For more information about displaying PostScript files, double click on an item from the list of additional topics below.
Additional information available:
scale factororientationuse commentsuse bitmapsuse faketrayswatch progress
scale factor
=TITLE scale_factor =TITLE Scale Factor =KEYWORD PostScript The Scale Factor lets you scale the page display size of your PostScript file. The number you select indicates whether the CDA Viewer will shrink or enlarge the page display. If the scale factor is less than 1.0, the page display will shrink. If the number is greater than 1.0, the page will expand. You can specify a scale factor in the range of 0.1 to 4.0 the size of the original page display. By default, the scale factor is 1.0.
orientation
=TITLE orientation =TITLE Orientation =KEYWORD PostScript The Orientation radio box lets you select the orientation for displaying PostScript files. By default, the CDA Viewer displays files in the same portrait or landscape mode in which they were created. Use the Orientation radio box to select different orientations to view files in reverse landscape mode or upside down.
use comments
=TITLE use_comments =TITLE Use Comments =KEYWORD PostScript Click on the Use Comments button to allow the viewer to interpret comments in a file as a means of moving from one page to any other page in that file more quickly. The Use Comments option is in effect by default. This is indicated by the highlighted Use Comments toggle button. If you try to view a file but receive an error message, you might be able to correct the problem by disabling the Use Comments option and reopening the file.
use bitmaps
=TITLE use_bitmaps =TITLE Use Bitmap Widths =KEYWORD PostScript The same PostScript file can be either printed or viewed on the screen, but characters look somewhat different on the printed page and the screen. The printer has finer resolution than the screen; with more dots per inch, the printer can make characters look clearer than the screen can. However, to clarify characters, the CDA Viewer can use spacing formulas designed for bitmaps (screen images) instead of those designed for print. The Use Bitmap Widths option is disabled by default. This setting is appropriate if you are more concerned with format and layout and less concerned with reading actual text. Spacing between characters is the same as on the printed page, so the page layout is also the same. Note however, that characters might be dense and difficult to read. To get a better view of the text in a file, click on the Use Bitmap Widths option. The next time you open a PostScript file, Bitmap Widths will be used. Text characters will appear well spaced and are easily read. However, the file might look slightly different on screen than it would when printed. Columns may not be aligned precisely or a paragraph formatted for right justification might appear instead with a ragged right margin.
use faketrays
=TITLE use_faketrays =TITLE Use Fake Trays =KEYWORD PostScript Choose the Use Fake Trays option to view a file that contains tray size directives. Some PostScript files contain tray size directives, that is, instructions that tell the printer what tray size to use. The CDA Viewer displays a diagnostic error message if you try to display a file that contains tray size directives. To view a file that contains tray size directives, click on the Use Fake Trays toggle button, and reopen the file.
watch progress
=TITLE watch_progress =TITLE Watch Progress =KEYWORD PostScript Choose the Watch Progress option to view a file while it is being displayed in the CDA Viewer window. This allows you to view a page as it is being calculated, rather than waiting to display the whole page at one time.
