Daynote entry

=TITLE Day Note Editor
=KEYWORD Daynote editor entry
=INCLUDE csh timeslot_entry repeat_interval
=INCLUDE csh timeslot_entry timeslot_icons
=INCLUDE csh timeslot_entry timeslot_buttons
=INCLUDE glossary Daynote
=INCLUDE glossary icons
The Day Note Editor allows you to enter Day notes in
your calendar, to repeat them, and to set the icons
 displayed in them.

While you can enter a Day Note into your calendar
without using the Day Note Editor, the editor provides
more flexibility when you want to make longer notes.

To display the Day Note Editor, double click on the
Day Note (located below the date) in a Day view timeslot.

The Entry Editor or the Day Notes Editor allow you to
enter an appointment in your calendar, adjust the
alarms for an entry, and schedule a regular
 appointment at specified intervals.

While you can enter an appointment into your calendar
without using the editor, they do provide more
flexibility when you want to make longer entries.

To display the Entry Editor, double click on the time
 in a Day view timeslot.

To display the Day Notes editor, double click on the
entry box below the date in the Day view.

You can also display the Entry Editor by clicking on the
timeslot and then choosing the Edit... menu item from the
 Entry menu.

The various functions of the Entry Editor and the Day
Notes Editor are described in the additional topics
 listed below.

The five alarms display their preset values. Alarms
that are set not to go off are dimmed.

Click on the bell to set or disable an alarm; then click
on the button if you want to adjust the time. Move the
arrow in the scale to adjust to the desired time.

To modify the preset values for the alarms, use the
 Alarms dialog box.

repeat interval

=title Setting a Repeat Interval for an Entry or Day Note
=Keyword setting repeat entry Daynote
=include csh timeslot_entry
=include csh timeslot_entry alarm_setting
=include csh timeslot_entry timeslot_buttons
An entry or Day Note can be repeated at almost any
 regular interval.

To select a repeat interval, display the Repeat option
menu and choose the desired interval.

If you choose a monthly interval, you must also make a
choice from the right-hand option menu to tell Calendar
which aspect of the current day you want to use as a
 basis for the interval.

For example, to set a meeting for the first Friday of
every third month, select the day on which the first
meeting occurs. Double click in a timeslot to open the
Entry Editor, and choose the Quarterly item from the
Repeat option menu. Then choose the first Friday from
 the right-hand option menu.

If you change or delete an entry that is repeated, a
dialog box appears, asking how often you want to make the
 change or deletion:

 - Just this instance
 - This and all future instances
 - All instances, past, present, and future

You can also use this dialog box to make exceptions to
repeating entries. To do so, make the required adjustment
to the text of the relevant entry, then click on the OK
button. After this, use the dialog box to specify when
 the exception should be applied.

repeat interval nonworkday condition

=title Setting the Condition Alternatives for Repeating Entries
=keyword repeat work nonwork condition
=include csh timeslot_entry
=include csh timeslot_entry repeat_interval
If a repeating entry or day note that normally occurs on
a Work day happens to fall on a Non-Work day (for example,
if the day is a national holiday), you can tell Calendar
to move forward, back automatically, or to skip that
particular occurrence of the entry. The same applies to
a Non-Work day repeat entry or day note that happens to
 fall on a Work day.

To set this condition, click on the "But," toggle button
and choose the appropriate menu items from the two
 adjacent option menus.

=include csh timeslot_entry
=include overview functions_1 entry_deleting
=include csh timeslot_entry alarm_setting
=include csh timeslot_entry repeat_interval
The Entry Editor includes several icons. The icons
provide quick reminders of the content of the entry.

To add icons to an entry, double click on the entry,
which displays the Entry Editor. In the Entry Editor,
click on the icons you want to associate with the entry.
Each icon you click on is displayed in the handle of the
 selected entry.

To delete an icon from an entry, click again on the
icon in the icon selection box.

To change the order of the icons, go to the handle that
appears to the left of the text entry area in the Entry
Editor, and click on the icon that you want to bring to
 the top.

Several icons that appear in the entry handle are not
displayed by the Entry Editor. Instead, Calendar inserts
 them automatically:

 - bell indicating that at least one alarm is set
 - (.. indicating the first of a set of repeating
        entries.
 - ... indicating one in a series of repeating entries.
 - ..) indicating the last of a set of repeating

interval and returns control to Calendar.
       The entry is complete.

Delete Entry -- Deletes the whole entry, regardless of
                 whether you entered something.

Reset -- Returns the text, alarm, and repeat interval
settings to what they were when you opened
the Entry Editor, but leaves the editor
displayed so that you can enter further

=TITLE Day View Timebars
=INCLUDE overview widget_section day_widget
=INCLUDE overview options_menu customize_day lunch_hours
The Day view contains two timebars, one to the left of
the timeslots, the other to the right of the vertical
 scroll bar.

The diagonal shading indicates nonworking hours. The
short break in the middle represents the lunch hour
(which you can adjust). A darker tone indicates the
 presence of a calendar entry.

The right-hand timebar, the Workday timebar, represents a
condensed (all 24 hours) view of working and nonworking
hours, and calendar entries for the displayed day.

The left-hand timebar, the Working Hours timebar,
corresponds directly to your Day view.

This vertical line to the left of the timeslots in the
Day view indicates the timeslots that are within the
period designated as the working day.

Diagonal shading indicates that the adjacent timeslot is
within what are normally considered to be nonworking
hours. Darker shading indicates that the timeslot
 contains at least one entry.

day/workday proportion timebar

=TITLE Workday Timebar
=INCLUDE csh day_display_timebars workinghours_timebar
=INCLUDE overview widget_section day_widget
This vertical line to the right of the vertical scroll bar
shows the working day in relation to the full 24-hour
 period.

The Workday timebar serves two purposes. First, when you
use the scroll bar, the timebar indicates the part of the
day to which you are scrolling.

Second, the timebar provides a useful reference for
appointments, which are displayed alongside it and are
indicated by darker shading in the corresponding section
of the timebar. This enables you to see at-a-glance when
appointments are scheduled and how much of the day they
 occupy.

Appointment bars that extend beyond the top or the
bottom of the workday timebar show that the day starts
early or runs late. If a day contains no appointments,
 no appointment bars are displayed.

 your Calendar software.

Please submit a Software Performance Report (SPR) to
Digital Equipment Corporation describing the actions that
led to this error. If you submit the SPR electronically,
try to include a copy of your datafile. The contents of

database error neednew

=TITLE Couldn't Open Calendar Datafile
The name you specified for the Calendar datafile does
not exist or could not be opened for the reason given.

This message appears the first time you run DECwindows
Calendar and whenever you try to open a datafile that
 does not exist.

If you meant to open a new datafile, click on the Yes
button. If not, click on the No button and check the
 datafile name that you provided.

database error cantopen

=TITLE Couldn't Open New Calendar Datafile
Although the datafile you specified exists, you
 cannot open it.

This is probably due to file protection problems, which
your system manager should be able to resolve.

database error cantcreate

=TITLE Couldn't Create a Calendar Datafile
If Calendar cannot create a datafile, it is often
because there is something wrong with the datafile name
you have provided. Check the name, then try again.

If Calendar still cannot create the file, then there is a
more serious problem. See your system manager for help.

database error cantdelete

=TITLE Couldn't Delete Calendar Datafile
For the reason given, Calendar could not delete the
 Calendar datafile you specified.

If you do not understand the reason given, or are
unable to resolve the problem, see your system manager
 for help.

database error badfile

=TITLE File is Not a Calendar Datafile
DECwindows Calendar opened the file you specified, but
it is not a Calendar datafile.

If you are on a VAX/VMS system and are using the logical
name DECW$CALENDAR_FILE, make sure that it is pointing at a
 valid DECwindows Calendar datafile.

database error cantupgrade

=TITLE Upgrade File is Read-Only
DECwindows Calendar has attempted to upgrade your
DECwindows Calendar datafile but failed because the
 file you specified is read-only.

Check that you have provided the correct file name for
your datafile, or provide write access for the
 currently specified file.

database error locked

=TITLE Datafile is Already Open for Exclusive Access
For a given DECwindows Calendar datafile, the access
granted depends on the file protection of the datafile.
DECwindows Calendar supports either one user (session)
having exclusive write access to its datafile or
multiple users (sessions) having read-only access.
Mixed read and write access to the same datafile is not
possible. You can open any read-only datafile or
any write-access datafile that is not currently opened
 by another user.

In your case, another DECwindows Calendar session has
already opened the specified datafile for exclusive
write access, so your request to access it is denied.

If you must open the datafile, ask the current user to
close it. Otherwise, try again later.

errorinclude

=TITLE Include File Error
For the reason given, Calendar could not include
 the file you specified.

If you do not understand the reason given or are
unable to resolve the problem, see your system manager
 for help.

cantprint

=TITLE Print File Error
For the reason given, Calendar could not write to
 the print file you specified.

If you do not understand the reason given or are
unable to resolve the problem, see your system manager
 for help.

cantrename

=TITLE Rename File Error
For the reason given, Calendar could not rename the
 Calendar datafile you specified.

If you do not understand the reason given or are
unable to resolve the problem, see your system manager
 for help.

cautiondelete entry

=TITLE Delete Entry Caution
You have asked to delete the entry in a timeslot.
Because this is a destructive operation, DECwindows
Calendar gives you the opportunity to change your mind.

If you do want to delete the entry, click on the Yes
button. If not, click on the No button.

cautiondelete database

=TITLE Delete Datafile Caution
You have asked to delete the entire datafile. Because
this is a destructive operation, DECwindows Calendar
gives you the opportunity to change your mind.

If you do want to delete the datafile, click on the Yes
button. If not, click on the No button.

repeatquestions

=TITLE Altering a Repeating Entry
=INCLUDE CSH timeslot_entry repeat_interval
Repeating entries are Calendar entries made on one
occasion and then automatically repeated at regular
 intervals (for example, every week).

If you attempt to change or delete one of these
entries, you must decide whether you want to
affect this one occasion (as if it were a single
event) or every such occasion from now on.

You can also modify individual occurrences. This is useful
if, for example, you are looking at a day in the future
that contains a repeat entry and decide to make a change.
Instead of returning to the first occurrence of the entry,
you can modify a future entry by using the Entry Editor.
When you exit from the Entry Editor, a dialog box asks you
if you want the changes you made to be applied in:

 -- Just this instance
-- This and all future instances
-- All instances, past, present, and future

includespec

=TITLE Incorrect File Specification
The file name you have provided is not valid. Retype it
 using valid characters:

       A - Z 0 - 9
       a - z underscore (_)
       hyphen (-) dollar sign ($)

A file name is a 1- through 39-character string that
provides a name for a file.

A file type is a 1- through 39-character string that
usually identifies the file in terms of its contents. File
types must be preceded by a period. For example, if you
had a Calendar file containing appointments, you might name
 it APPOINTMENTS.DWC.

fileopenchoice

=TITLE Opening Another Calendar Database
=INCLUDE overview calendar_menu file_open_option
=INCLUDE overview calendar_menu file_open_option create
You have asked to open another Calendar datafile. You
can choose whether to open the new database in another
window (or set of windows) or to use the current
windows. If you use the current windows, the datafile
you are currently viewing is replaced by the new one.

The choice is made by clicking on one of the option
 buttons in the dialog box.

If you do not want to do either of these, click on the
Cancel button and you will return to the existing
window (or windows) and the existing datafile.

error copying clipboard:

=TITLE Clipboard Copying Error
Although you performed the correct procedure, there
is a problem with the clipboard. The clipboard is
probably locked by another application. Try again
 later.

If the error continues after several retries, report
the situation to your system manager.

error zero time

=TITLE Attempting Entries Before 1600 AD
=INCLUDE history calendar_background_decwin
Calendar is designed to work only from 1600 AD to 9999 AD.
There is no straightforward way to change this
characteristic. If you must make entries outside this time
period, you must use a Calendar application specifically
 designed for that purpose.

error clipboard bad format

=TITLE Clipboard Contents Not Understood by Calendar
The clipboard can contain data in many formats, some of
 which are incompatible with Calendar.

The only way to copy such data into Calendar is to first
open an entry, and then to try to paste the contents of the
clipboard into the entry. If this does not work, then the
data is incompatible with Calendar and cannot be copied
 into it.

error close entries

=TITLE Entry or Day Note Not Closed
You have tried to perform a task (such as removing the Day
Note window or changing work days) that requires all
entries or Day Notes to be closed, but some are still open.

Check that no Day Notes or entries are open in the current
Day view. Open entries or Day Notes not associated with the
current day must have an editor dialog box open, so closing
all of these closes any remaining open entries or Day
Notes. Then try your task again.

error unconfigurable

=TITLE Impossible Configurations

You have probably changed too many settings in the Day view
dialog box without checking the results. Reset the box (by
clicking on the Reset button), then change a few settings
and click on the Apply button. Continue this process until
you have created a display that is acceptable to both you
 and Calendar.

error empty file

=TITLE Including an Empty File
Although you performed the correct procedure, the file you
included contained nothing. Check the file name, and if you
are on a VMS system, the version number. If these are both
correct, then the problem is with the file itself.

error entry too big

=TITLE Including a File Too Large for an Entry
Calendar could not save the entry because the file you
tried to include was too large for Calendar. You can
either leave the data as a file outside Calendar and
put a reference to that file in the calendar entry, or
find a way to shorten the file.

error day too big

=TITLE Including Too Much Data for One Day
Although the current entry may not be very large, you
have exceeded the limit that Calendar allows for any one
day. You probably have one or more entries with very
 large amounts of data.

A solution to this problem is to copy the large entry to a
file outside Calendar, and then put a reference to that
 file in the calendar entry.

error cant get prolog

=TITLE There is no PostScript Header File
The PostScript file you tried to create has no header and
therefore cannot be printed. Re-creating the file is not
likely to fix the problem. See your system manager for
 help.
