EVE FILL — VMS 5.4

 FILL

Reformats a range, box, or paragraph so the maximum number of words fits
on a line (same as FILL RANGE or FILL PARAGRAPH).

Typically, you use FILL after erasing, removing, or pasting text, or after
changing the margins or paragraph indent.

 Keys: EDT Keypad WPS Keypad
         -----------------------------------
         GOLD-KP8 GOLD-KP5

 Steps:

    1. Optionally, select or find the text to reformat (see help on
Ranges And Boxes), or put the cursor anywhere in the paragraph
        you want to reformat.

    2. Use FILL (see key list above).

 Usage notes:

o Filling a range or paragraph uses the current margins of the buffer.
Filling a box uses the limits of the box, so you can reformat a list or
part of a table without affecting adjacent text.

o If you used SET BOX SELECT, then FILL uses the start and end of a found
range as diagonally opposite corners of a box.

o If there is a found range at the end of a selection, FILL works on the
selection but not on the found text.

o If you do not select or find text, FILL reformats the current paragraph
and moves the cursor to the end of that paragraph. "Paragraphs" are
bounded by any of the following:

       *  Blank line
       * Top or bottom of the buffer
       * Page break (form feed at the start of a line)
       * RUNOFF command (such as .BREAK;) at the start of a line
       * VAX DOCUMENT tag (such as <LE>) at the start of a line

o Filling a range or box keeps blank lines and page breaks as paragraph
boundaries, so you can select several paragraphs or the entire buffer
for reformating. For example, if your selection contains lines
beginning with RUNOFF commands or DOCUMENT tags, FILL does not reformat
those lines, but does reformat the other lines in the range.

o FILL deletes tabs and spaces at the start of each line in the range or
paragraph, but does not affect tabs and spaces in the middle or at the
end. If the range begins in the middle of a line, FILL does not delete
tabs and spaces at the start of that line.

o Filling a box converts tab characters to spaces in the box or to the
right of the box, to keep the column alignment of text.

o If the paragraph indent is not 0 (the default setting), you cannot fill
a range unless the range starts at the start of a paragraph.
