LEARN
Learns a sequence of keystrokes and remembers them as a single key. The
sequence can comprise commands, text, or both. (In some text editors this
is called a "macro.")
Steps:
1. Use the LEARN command. (See key list below.)
2. Type the keystrokes you want learned. You can type text, commands,
or both -- including pressing keys already defined. However, mouse
operations are NOT learned.
3. To end or "remember" the learn sequence, press CTRL/R.
4. At the prompt, press the key you want to use for the learn
sequence. You can press:
A function key ....... such as F20, PF4, or Keypad 9
A GOLD combination ... such as GOLD-A or GOLD-ENTER
A control key ........ such as CTRL/N
RETURN ............... to cancel the definition
o Your key definitions override those done by SET KEYPAD commands. For
example, if the key you use for the learn sequence is ordinarily
defined by the EDT or WPS keypad, your definition overrides the EDT or
WPS definition.
o Key definitions remain in effect throughout your editing session or
until you redefine the key. To save key definitions for future
sessions, use the SAVE EXTENDED EVE command to create a section file.
You cannot put learn sequences in an initialization file.
o Learn sequences record keystrokes, rather than the key definitions at
the time the sequence was created. Therefore, before you "replay" a
learn sequence, check that any keys used in the learn sequence are
defined appropriately and also that any settings that affect the
sequence are correct (such as bound or free cursor, margins, and tab
stops, pending delete, and so on). Otherwise, the learn sequence may
fail or may not work as expected.
Keys: The following keys are each defined as LEARN:
