EVE CHANGE_MODE — VMS 5.1-B

 CHANGE MODE

Changes (toggles) the mode for entering text in the current buffer --
either insert or overstrike -- as shown in the status line.

 Steps:

To toggle the mode of the buffer, do any of the following:

o Click MB1 on Insert or Overstrike in the status line.

o Press CTRL/A or the F14 key. With the VT100 keypad, press ENTER.

o Use the CHANGE MODE command.

For editing text, the default mode is insert. For typing commands, the
mode matches your terminal setting. (See help on Editing Command Lines.)

The mode of the buffer also affects the following commands and keypad
 functions:

DELETE EDT Delete Character key (COMMA on keypad)
ERASE CHARACTER EDT Specins key (GOLD-KP3)
QUOTE WPS Delete Character key (PF4)
    RESTORE CHARACTER

To change the mode of an unmodifiable buffer, first use the SET BUFFER
 MODIFIABLE command.
