on the highlighted text as on a select range. (See help on SELECT.)

o To cancel the highlighting, move off the found string or use RESET.

o If the string is found in the opposite direction, EVE asks if you want

Halts scrolling caused by another operation, such as WPS Scroll Backup
(GOLD/KP1) or WPS Scroll Advance (GOLD/KP0).

o You can also stop the scrolling by pressing any key -- whether a typing
key or a function key. This also executes the function assigned to
    that key, if any.

cursor is pushed down, starting a new line. The cursor does NOT move.

This is useful to create room for adding text in the middle of a line or
paragraph, or to add blank lines to make paragraphs you want to fill.

 Steps:

    1. Put the cursor where you want to break the line.
    2. Press the EDT Open Line key (GOLD/KP0).

The effect is similar to pressing RETURN except the cursor does not move.
Any existing text to the right and below the cursor is pushed down,
starting a new line at the current left margin.

Page Marker

 WPS Page Marker

Inserts a page marker or "soft" page break at the start of a line by
itself. (See help on INSERT PAGE BREAK.)

o A soft page break is a form feed followed by the null character
(appearing as a small FF and a small NL).

o By contrast, a "hard" page break (inserted with CTRL/L) is a form feed
    only (small FF).

Keys: The WPS keypad defines these keys for pagination:

GOLD/P ..... WPS Page Marker (soft page break)
GOLD/PF2 ... WPS Paginate (soft break for 54-line pages)
GOLD/N ..... INSERT PAGE BREAK (hard page break; same as CTRL/L)

Paginate

 WPS Paginate

Paginates using "soft" breaks (page markers). A soft page break is a form
feed followed by the null character (appearing as a small FF and a small
 NL).

 Steps:

    1. Press the WPS Paginate key (GOLD/PF2). EVE then moves back to the
previous page break (if any) and checks ahead for page breaks
        within the next 54 lines.

    2. If soft breaks are found within the 54 lines, EVE removes them,
then moves down 54 lines, inserts a soft break (if necessary), and
puts the cursor on the next line. You can repeat the operation to
        paginate further.

If a hard page break is found (form feed only), EVE stops at that page
break so you can remove it (using ERASE LINE) and then insert a soft break
by pressing the WPS Page Marker key (GOLD/P).

 Related topics:

Paragraph

 WPS Paragraph

o In FORWARD direction, the cursor moves to the start of the next

optionally using an alternate paste buffer.

 Steps:

    1. Optionally, press GOLD and type the number of the alternate paste

Paste key (COMMA or GOLD/COMMA on the keypad, or INSERT HERE).

o The text is always inserted whether the mode of the buffer is insert or
overstrike. (See help on INSERT MODE). Text does not automatically
    rewrap.

o With the WPS keypad, a GOLD-number sequence indicates an alternate
paste buffer. Therefore, you cannot use GOLD and a number to repeat
WPS Paste. Instead, use the REPEAT command.

 EDT Previous Screen

Scrolls vertically, moving the cursor to the previous section, if there is
one -- roughly 75% of the window size.

the shape of your text. If the cursor is BOUND, it moves up to the
corresponding position in the lines above, following the shape of your
text. See help on SET CURSOR BOUND and FREE.

o If you mistakenly press GOLD and a number, use RESET to cancel the
    operation.

o With the WPS keypad, a GOLD-number sequence indicates an alternate
paste buffer. Therefore, you cannot use GOLD and a number to repeat
the WPS Paste key. Instead, use the REPEAT command.

    7. Press RETURN or GOLD/RETURN to exit from the ruler and resume
        editing.

o Changing the margins does NOT reformat or rewrap text in the buffer.
To reformat text with new margins, use FILL commands.

o Changing tab stops affects existing tabs in the current buffer (if they
were entered with the tab mode set to INSERT.)

o While you are in the ruler, to get help on ruler keys, press HELP.

Specins

 EDT Special Insert (Specins)

Enters a character or control code from the DEC Multinational Character
Set by using the decimal value for the character.

 Steps:

    1. Press GOLD and type the decimal value for the character, such as
27 for the escape character or 181 for the micro symbol (ยต). The
number appears in reverse video on the command line.

    2. Press the EDT Specins key (GOLD/KP3).

o EVE enters the character according to the current mode of the buffer,
as shown in the status line (insert or overstrike). Some control codes
appear as a backwards question mark.

o Alternatively, you can enter multinational characters with the COMPOSE
CHARACTER key; or to enter control codes, such as form feed and escape,
    use the QUOTE command (CTRL/V).

Subs

 EDT Substitute

Substitutes the text you have previously removed or stored for the
 currently highlighted text.

 Steps:

    1. Use REMOVE or STORE TEXT to store the text you want to use. (The
text replaces, in the INSERT HERE buffer, what you previously
        removed or stored.)

    2. Use FIND, SELECT, or WILDCARD FIND to highlight the text you want
        to replace.

    3. Press the EDT Subs key (GOLD/ENTER on the keypad) to make the
substitution. EVE erases the highlighted text and inserts the
contents of the INSERT HERE buffer.

EVE then does a FIND for the next occurrence of the string. If it is
found and you want to make the substitution, press SUBS again. If you
want to skip this occurrence and find the next one, press FIND twice or
press the EDT Fndnxt key (PF3). To cancel the search, use RESET.

Swap

 WPS Swap

Swaps (transposes) the character that the text cursor is on with the
 character immediately following it.

This is useful for correcting spelling errors. For example, if you
mistakenly typed "teh," do the following:

    1. Put the text cursor on the letter "e."

    2. Press the WPS Swap key (GOLD/ENTER on the keypad).

This swaps or transposes the letters "e" and "h": the result is "the."

The swapping is independent of the current direction of the buffer.

Tab Position

 WPS Tab Position

Moves the cursor to the next or previous tab stop, depending on the
current direction (shown in the status line).

o In FORWARD direction, the cursor moves to the next tab stop or if there
is no next tab stop, to the start of the next line.

o In REVERSE direction, the cursor moves to the previous tab stop or if
there is no previous tab stop, to the start of the previous line.

By default, tab stops are every 8. To set tab stops, use SET TABS or
press the WPS Ruler key (GOLD/R). To find out the tab settings of the
 current buffer, use SHOW.

Key: The WPS keypad defines KP8 as Tab Position.

Upper Case

 WPS Upper Case

Makes one or more letters uppercase and sets the direction to FORWARD.

 Steps:

    1. Optionally, use FIND, SELECT, or WILDCARD FIND to highlight text.
    2. Press the WPS Upper Case key (KP3).

The cursor moves to the next character, if there is one.

If text is NOT highlighted, the current character is made uppercase, and
you can then press one of these WPS keys to make the corresponding entity
 uppercase:

    Line ........ KP2 or GOLD/KP2 Page ........ PF2
    Word ........ KP4 or GOLD/KP4 Bottom ...... GOLD/B
    Paragraph ... KP5 Top ......... GOLD/T
    Sentence .... KP7 or GOLD/KP7
